April 26, 1959 – September 16, 1998
April was an active member of the Gold River Chamber of Commerce in the early 1990s. In 1991 she became Vice President, while simultaneously working on the Advisory Planning and Economic Development Board to the Village council. At the end of the year, she was elected President in 1992 and served a second term in 1993.
During her time with the Chamber of Commerce, April represented Gold River at various conferences, was the Master of Ceremonies for the “Troy Gamble Adoption Banquet”, handled media relations and organized a business directory for members of the community that was issued in 1993.
Volunteer work and the drive to never stop learning were April’s passions. Her volunteer work included being an Advisory Board member of the Community Initiatives Society, Chairperson of the Annual Business Trade Show, as well as being a part of Nootka Sound Speakers and International Training in Communication (ITC), where she served as President from 1992-1993, conducting training seminars to develop communication skills for ITC members.
On a personal level, April was the eldest daughter born to Michael and Deloraine Tadychuk, wife of John Holmes and mother of boy-girl twins, Tanner and Jordanna. Those who knew April best said she was vivacious and full of life! April loved Gold River and continuously looked for new strategies for economic growth and diversification of a one-industry community (at the time). Sadly, April was diagnosed with cancer and passed away at the young age of 39.
April’s husband and family are honoured by the bursary in April’s name, that stands for everything she believed in and her love of Gold River.
